Greylock Softball

A Program of Lanesboro Youth Softball and the Williamstown Youth Center

2010 INFORMATION SHEET
This softball program is coordinated through the combined efforts of Lanesboro Girls Softball
and the Williamstown Youth Center and provided to girls (grades 1-8) in the general Mount Greylock
Regional School District region (Lanesboro, Williamstown, New Ashford and Hancock). Interested
players can sign up EITHER through Lanesboro Girls Softball (Lanesboro residents and ALL MGRHS 7th
and 8th graders) or the Williamstown Youth Center (Williamstown residents in grades 1-6).
There will be both an in house and travel component:

1) In house
Teams will be determined for the following age groups:

Grades 1-3: Jr. Division. Introduction to softball. Focus on fun and basic skills of hitting,
throwing and fielding. 1 practice and 1-2 games/week. Games are instructional, no scores kept and
coach-pitch. TEAMS ARE TOWN-SPECIFIC.

Grades 4-6: Intermediate Division. Continue to focus on fun and basic skills; introduce specialty
positions (pitcher, catcher). 1 practice and 1-2 games/week. Games following ASA rules/regulations
with some in-house rule modifications (inning run-limit, stealing restrictions, etc).
LANESBORO/WILLIAMSTOWN PLAYERS MIXED ON SAME TEAMS

Grades 7-8: Senior Division. Continue with Intermediate plan. More advanced play. 1-2 practices
and 1-2 games/week. LANESBORO/WILLIAMSTOWN PLAYERS MIXED ON SAME TEAMS.
Games will be played against other Greylock Softball teams and against teams in the Northern
Berkshire Girls Softball League (North Adams and possibly Adams) using the same set of rules
and age divisions as described above.

2) Travel:
Greylock travel teams at the U10, U12 and U14 age groups (assuming interest/commitment from both
players and coaches) will be formed and compete in the Berkshire County League. In general, tryouts
will occur sometime in early June, practices will start approximately mid-June, and games run roughly
the entire month of July. Exact dates (tryouts, games, practices) will follow after the start of the in
house season.
